Essen Motor Show 2015

65 Years of the World Formula 1 Championship at Messe Essen

Essen Motor Show Will Display Cars of Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel

The World Formula 1 Championship continues to be the crowning glory of automobile sport. Reason enough for Messe Essen to set up, on the occasion of this year's Essen Motor Show from November 28 to December 6 (November 27: Preview Day), a starter field consisting of 13 vehicles which will highlight the trends in Formula 1 until today: from the classic racing car with the engine at the front from the 1950s right up to the turbocharged racers which have been the latest thing for two years. Successful vehicles in which, for example, Juan Manuel Fangio, Stirling Moss, Ayrton Senna or Michael Schumacher steered to victories or World Champion titles will be represented.

Moreover, the Essen Motor Show will present, amongst others, cars with which current Formula 1 drivers such as the World Champions Fernando Alonso or Sebastian Vettel were successful. The exhibition will display the enormous technical development of successful Formula 1 vehicles. The Maserati 250F from 1957 and the Red Bull RB7 from 2011 will be examples. Both were fitted with naturally aspirated engines. The Maserati managed a maximum power of 240 bhp but the Red Bull with its Renault engine had over 500 bhp more power at its disposal - although it was 100 ccm smaller than the Maserati.

Maserati 250F (1957) - Car of the World Champion Juan Manuel Fangio

The Maserati 250F has gone down in the history of the World Formula 1 Championship as one of the most beautiful racing cars. From 1954 to 1957, the Italian racing and sports car forge utilised the 250F as a works car and was victorious in eight of the 28 classification races in this period, i.e. in every fourth. The best-known drivers were the Briton Stirling Moss (runner-up in the World Championship in 1956) and the legendary Argentinian Juan Manuel Fangio who drove to his fifth and last World Championship title in the 250F in 1957. In Essen, it will be possible to see the last version of the 250F from 1957. In 2014, an original 250F in an optimum condition is said to have changed hands for approx. US$ 4.5 million at an auction.

Red Bull RB7-Renault (2011) - Car of the World Champion Sebastian Vettel

In 2008, Sebastian Vettel, Germany's coming Formula 1 star at that time, won the Italian Grand Prix in Monza in the Toro Rosso team and then moved to Red Bull Racing in 2009. One year later, the star of the native of Heppenheim was definitely rising: With a victory in the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi, he snatched the World Championship title from the hands of the Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso. One year later, Vettel confirmed his success in the RB7 in a superior manner, as proven by eleven victories and five second places in 19 races. Clearly, Red Bull convincingly won the classification for constructors, too, especially because his team-mate Mark Webber contributed one victory and drove into the points 18 times.
